    PranaDanda Yoga is a unique, powerful style of yoga and mind-body training method that fine-tunes the body, awakens the senses, channels energy, and stabilizes the mind.

    The workshop will teach interweaving a five-foot flexible staff around the body, merging with powerful spiral movements and a progressive series of asanas that comprise a Prana Flow Warrior vinyasa sequence.

    Integrating the staff as an object of meditation and a divining rod of alignment with a strong, flowing yoga sequence sharpens attention, refines coordination and awakens the central energetic channel (Danda). The Staff is the outer manifestation, the active mirror of that divine, 'graceful' Danda channel within imbued with the pure power (Shakti) of Enlightened Awareness. When we wield the Danda, we become rooted in the present moment and surrender into the state of Yoga, into that blissful dance of empowered grace.

    This form of yoga:
    • sharpens attention, increases flexibility and stamina, and refines coordination
    • harnesses energetic power (prana) through yogic breathing timed with rhythmic movement
    • opens the energy channels (nadis) within the inner danda, or spine
    • imbues the practitioner with the pure power (shakti) of Enlightened Awareness

    Biography: Demetri Velisarius, BSW, RYT 200, is a PranaDanda Yoga™ and Buddhist meditation teacher. A former bicycle racer, he attended a retreat at Kripalu in 1991 that changed his life purpose. He spent 12 years doing social work in the Boston area and also mentored at-risk teens through the art of bicycle mechanics. In 1996, he began studying meditation with Lama Surya Das and took refuge in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. His studies included a 100-day silent meditation retreat with Lama Willa Miller. With the guiding influence of his partner and PranaDanda cocreator Shiva Rea, and fueled by his passion for training in Prana Flow Yoga, Trance Dance, shadow boxing, and fire spinning, PranaDanda Yoga came into being.

    All levels welcome! PranaDanda Yoga is challenging, but you don't need to be fit or flexible to practice and enjoy its benefits. It's easy to learn and provides a potent antidote to lethargy, stress, and distraction. The staffs will be provided at the studio.
